About 5,000 participants walk for four days gyrating and dancing through the streets of Paramaribo. Most participants walk in groups, the others are walking individually. A thick crowd watches and enjoys from the sidelines and encourage the walkers of the 4-day. We assume that Covid-19 is far behind us and otherwise it will be encouraging with an appropriate distance of 1.5 meters. Caressed by a pleasant sun, and cooled down by refreshing winds, with accompanying sounds by skillful musicians and enjoyed by a boisterous crowd. It has all the ingredients for four days of unbridled fun.
To know
- The 4-day is from April 20 to 23.
- Choose from an average of 15 km. per day.
- Start of the 15 kilometers is at 5 pm.
- Choose from an average of 30 km. per day.
- The 30 kilometer start is at 3:00 pm.
- Closed course free of traffic.
- Completely flat and paved course.
- There are toilet facilities.
- Medical care / first aid present.
- Participants receive a reward.
The route varies and holds a different surprise every day. It meanders through the various neighborhoods, each with its own characteristics, and as you're walking you get up close and personal with the friendly residents. Quite an experience! Of course it's great fun singing and swinging along with the marching crowd, most of them dressed in fancy and colorful costumes. The countless roadside stalls add further flavor to the atmosphere with the smells of tasty local dishes. All ingredients to make the atmosphere warm and cozy, during a vibrant and energizing march in the evening.
The official Four Day March of Paramaribo is held annually under the auspices of the Sports Association BVSS. The Association assures participants of a proper organization of the march. The rules and standards of the Association are governed by Suriname's rule of law, especially where it concerns safety. In addition, liability and accident insurance is arranged for all participants.
